Socialized Medicine

It is amazing, and deeply disturbing, how many Americans are buying the blatant lies sold by Liberal politicians and too many Republicans alike that socialized medicine is desirable and would solve all of our health care problems. Socialized health care never works. It's a disaster economically and socially. And, it just gives away yet more of your rights to incompetent bureaucrats.

Obama and his Congressional cronies have already created the laws--buried in their so-called stimulus package--that would make a bureaucrat responsible for deciding whether or not you are even PERMITTED to opt for a certain medical procedure, even if you desire it AND you can pay for it. This is utterly outrageous.

It is proven that socialized medicine has destroyed the medical health care systems of Britain, France, and Canada.

• France's system has been bankrupt since 1964.
• Britain's is bankrupt now and there are now medical treatment waiting lists to get on the waiting lists. The rate of cancer death in Britain is frightening.
• The Canadian government alone spends $1 billion a year to send its members to the U.S. to receive health care. In Canada, you have to sign a paper before a hospital will give you treatment. This paper says that because of your wait, your condition could become worse--and you may die. But, you absolve the hospital of all blame for this.

Imagine the bloody revolution in the streets when Americans start having to wait in line for serious health care! Yet, this is what our Liberal government insists will work in our best interests. Something that has never worked for anyone else while we have created what is obviously the best health care system on the planet, despite its problems (which are almost entirely caused by government meddling), is what our power-mad Lib politicians want to stuff down our throats. They don't care about us and they don't even care about the people who come here from other nations to get the best health care treatment in the world.

As a personal friend of mine whose husband is in the Navy said it to me personally, "As a recipient of government-sponsored health care, I can promise you it is NOT more efficient or cheaper, even with our cheap military doctors. My husband needs a neurologist. We have known that for the last three iterations of appointments. But he has yet to get a referral to one because he has to jump through all the hoops first."

Our health care costs are already over twice as much as they would be if the government just got the hell out of the way. This is a provable fact. And yet, they want to increase our costs while giving us the above.

WHAT IS SOCIALIZED MEDICINE?

• It is a way of giving perverse incentives to drug companies to stop intensive research and development. It gives perverse incentives to health care providers to stop competing for business and to stop really caring whether or not they excel at what they do. We will lose life-saving medicines and we will lose quality doctors (we'll also lose doctors quantitatively). Medicine is expensive and highly demanding; if providers and drug companies cannot make the living they deserve, if they cannot even afford to do quality research, why should they try?
• Patients are given perverse incentives to stop seeking out the best prices and the highest quality in medicine. The government is just a monolithic monopoly that arbitrarily fixes prices and, like all monopolies, squelches technological advancement.
• It is nothing other than a form of thievery. The government just steals from the so-called "haves" * (those who work hard enough and smart enough to have money) to give to the so-called "have nots" (who are now caught in the vicious web of counterfeit nurturance). You have as much right to health care as you have to food. No less, but no more. We expect people to pay for their own food. Soup kitchens and food pantries are the result of voluntary charity--not extortion.
• It destroys medical care quality without exception. And those whom this absurd concept is supposed to help--the poor and unfortunate--are harmed more than anyone else.
• Your rights are stolen by it. Suddenly, it's my business what your lifestyle is, and my lifestyle is your business. Actually, it's all the government's--but since they are stealing from me to give to you, if you do something I don't like I'm going to have to get back at you. Like, if you want to smoke in your own home, or if you want to eat what I think are too many cheeseburgers, or if you want to have what I judge is "unsafe" sex, I'll support government bans on these free choices you have. I'll tell Big Brother to watch you--right there in your own bedroom.
• Those who are extremely wealthy are given a perverse incentive to buy off politicians and "help them" set policies that allow them all kinds of exceptions to the rules that were allegedly set up to get everyone equal health care. There is nothing wrong with being rich--that's the American dream for many people--but when the rich start sleeping with the enemy (the government), you had better be prepared to suffer if you're not "in" with them.

CONCLUSION

Socialized medicine is one of the most destructive things that can be inflicted on a society--especially one that is still at least semi-free. Conservatives must oppose it. Liberals need to get over it.
