The Case Against Liberalism
What is Liberalism? Well, we should be clear that when we use that word today we are referring to Leftist Liberals. The Democratic party has been taken over by Liberalism, and it has infected many Republicans these days, too--these are the Republicans that we refer to as RINOs, for they call themselves Republicans and yet act like nothing other than softer versions of Leftist Liberals.
Today, Liberalism is a lie. It is named in total Orwellian Newspeak fashion. The way that Liberalism is defined by its adherents could not be farther from the reality of what is practiced. This is because Liberals believe that words define reality. If you say that B is A, then it is--to the Liberal mind.
Here is a very easy test that Liberals cannot get right. Let's say that we have a consensus to call a tail a "leg". If we do this, how many legs does a normal, healthy dog have? Liberals would answer "five", which of course is wrong. The correct answer is "four". Why? Just because you call a tail a leg does not change it into one. Liberals just don't get it.
Liberalism has been hijacked by the Leftists. Once upon a time, the definition of Liberalism was being able to go against policies, customs, or traditional ways of doing things that had become stifled by unreflecting people who just went through the motions. Liberalism meant you could think for yourself and didn't give in to "well, that's just the way things are done around here."
The Republican party was founded in liberalism. How so? Well, when the party was officially formed in 1860 in Wisconsin, it had as one of its central platforms the abolition of slavery--something the vast majority of Democrats opposed. This was a liberal policy in that day, for it called for radical change. (Modern Liberals, needless to say, don't want you to know that the Republican party is the champion of black Americans, while the Democrats court them only to use them and abuse them and help them stay in power. As the great black American economist Dr. Thomas Sowell has written, "No segment of the population has lost more by the agendas of the liberal constituencies of the Democratic Party than the black population. The teachers' unions, environmental fanatics, and the ACLU are just some of the groups to whose interests blacks have been sacrificed wholesale. Lousy education and high crime rates in the ghettos, and unaffordable housing elsewhere with building restrictions, are devastating prices to pay for liberalism.")
Another ramification of the definition of Liberalism is today's Libertarian party. The Libertarians and Conservative Republicans mostly agree on things. But there are a few bones of contention. Both parties agree that our current immigration laws are screaming for streamlining and simplification. But Conservatives say that until that happens, we must enforce the current laws. Many Libertarians say that until that happens, the current laws are so absurd that they should be ignored. Conservatives and Libertarians agree that we need a powerful military. But while Conservatives see the need for some foreign intervention and pre-emption, Libertarians insist that our military has only one purpose--to thwart any direct military attacks (or retaliate in defense against them) against our territory by a foreign power. And even staunch capitalist Conservatives cannot go in for the most radical Libertarians with their "anarcho-capitalism", which means exactly what it sounds like it means.
Still, the Libertarians understand that that "Liber-" prefix means love of personal independence, love of the United States, hatred of those who would trash this nation and try to bring it down and put the people in chains. They understand that it means the ability to progress and make needed changes while adhering to core principles. Too bad, so sad that the definition of Liberalism amongst today's Left and their Democrat demagogues has been so perverted.
